Calling All Galveston Homeowners

 

All homeowners in the City of Galveston whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Ike are urged to apply for assistance from the city's new Disaster Recovery Housing Program - a voluntary program designed to help repair damaged and, when necessary, reconstruct homes.

 

You are Urged to Apply if You Meet Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for any of the housing programs listed above, homeowners must meet the following requirements:

  • Home is located in the City of Galveston.
  • Home must have been damaged by Hurricane Ike.
  • You must have been the owner of the damaged home and property (not renting) at the time of the storm.
  • The damaged home must have been where you lived the majority of the time and be your primary residence.
  • Your damaged home must be a single family or a duplex. Condos, Townhomes, RV's, house boats are not eligible.
  • If your damaged property was a manufactured home, you will only be eligible for a reconstructed home. All work with manufactured homes must be in accordance with local zoning codes.

Everyone should apply regardless of income. Priority will be given to homeowners who are of low or moderate income as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Notice: Priority Processing Timeline

The first priority group to begin processing is those applicants that are determined to be LMI. The priority one applicants will be processed first through April 30, 2010. On May 1, 2010, the priority two group of elderly non-LMI will begin processing. The priority one and two groups will no longer be effective as of June 1, 2010. All applications received after June 1, 2010 will be processed on a first come first serve basis without a priority status assigned.
